  50. Thank You for trying DeskTop Advisor Version 2.0!!

  52. DeskTop Advisor is a hyperdocument authoring and delivery system.
  53. It is an easy-to-use tool for creating and distributing on-line
  54. documents in hypertext form, with linked images and sound segments.
  55. These hyperdocuments can be electronically browsed for learning,
  56. research, reference, or instant help purposes.
  57.       
  58. The package includes a TSR shell for popping up over other
  59. applications when needed.  The registered version contains an
  60. interrupt-triggered shell with which you can seamlessly integrate
  61. hypertext on-line documentation into applications you develop.
  62. You can use this to make your documentation context-sensitive.
  63. As a registered user, you will have a license to commercially
  64. distribute any DeskTop Advisor runtimes free of royalties, as
  65. long as you notify Ivden Technologies, Inc. in advance in writing.

  67. DeskTop Advisor has been developed by Phil Grenetz and is marketed
  68. by Ivden Technologies, Inc.  Although it is copyrighted material,
  69. the DeskTop Advisor runtime browser is distributed as freeware in
  70. the DA-BROWS.ZIP archive file to promote awareness and use of
  71. this electronic publishing technology and to provide access to
  72. the growing base of publicly available hyperdocuments authored
  73. using the DeskTop Advisor system.

  75. For instance, the Philadelphia Area Computer Society (PACS)
  76. Shareware Library Catalog is distributed as a DeskTop Advisor
  77. hyperdocument.  Interactive Media resource guides and tutorials
  78. are also available in this form on several BBSs and information
  79. services, e.g., CompuServe:  GO MULTIMEDIA.
  80. 2.  SHAREWARE CONCEPT
  81.     -----------------

  83. "Shareware" is a term used to describe a system for distribution of
  84. software.  Under the shareware concept, software may be freely
  85. copied and passed along to others, or distributed through bulletin
  86. board systems, shareware distribution companies, etc.
  87.  
  88. As a recipient of a shareware program, you may use the software for
  89. a short trial period to determine if it meets your needs.  If it
  90. does, you pay the registration fee.  By paying the fee, you are
  91. granted the right to retain the software for your use.  If the
  92. software is not suitable, then you may discard it.

  94. The shareware system provides substantial benefits to the computing
  95. community (of which YOU are a member):

  97.  a) You get to try out the software BEFORE you buy it so you know
  98.     exactly what you're buying.

  100.  b) Shareware is substantially less expensive than most commercial

  114. works quite well.  (Most people are honest and wouldn't violate the
  115. trust placed in them by the author of the software.)

  172. Place the distribution diskette in a floppy disk drive, drive A:
  173. for example.  Enter A: to make drive A: the default drive.
  174. Next, enter INSTALL d:, where d: is the disk drive on which you
  175. wish to install DeskTop Advisor.  The target drive should have
  176. at least 3 Megabytes of free disk space.  The installation then
  177. proceeds, prompting you to insert the next diskette.

  186. After completing the installation, take some time to browse the
  187. on-line user manual.  It is informative and serves as a sample
  188. runtime hyperdocument.

  190. In the authoring environment, a hyperdocument is also called a
  191. 'knowledge base'.  To learn about the authoring environment,
  192. locate in the DTA directory of the drive on which you installed
  193. the product and enter:

  197. When you are finished browsing the on-line manual, enter the
  198. authoring environment by entering:

  202. Follow the menus and prompts to create a new knowledge base.  You
  203. can access the on-line manual from the Help menu.  Consult it as
  204. needed throughout the authoring process.  Enjoy the experience!!

  207.    SOUND SUPPORT (tm)

  210. DeskTop Advisor incorporates audio technology to enhance the
  211. communication process.  Sound Support files are accessible in
  212. the DeskTop Advisor authoring system and the runtime browser.  They
  213. are segments of digitally recorded audio narrative intended to augment
  214. the traditional on-line help screens.  They are stored in compressed
  215. 4-bit format and can be played through your PC's internal speaker or
  216. parallel port device, such as the Covox Speech Thing.

  218. You can also add sound to your own hyperdocuments.  See the manual.

  270. and wish to continue using it after the 30 day evaluation period,
  271. you must pay the registration fee.  Registration for use on a
  272. single personal computer is $59.00 + Shipping & Handling.  Register
  273. for each personal computer on which DeskTop Advisor is installed.
